Common Sense Science is a body of theory regarding matter and forces that describes physical reality using geometric models, absolute time and Galilean space in a way that is consistent with experimental observations and free of internal contradictions. The foundational principles of CSS theory are based upon the law of cause and effect and the assertion that the universe and natural phenomena are fundamentally electrical in character. These principles have led to the development of more accurate physical models for elementary particles, nuclei, atoms and molecules, and the derivation of a new universal force law that applies on all scales ranging from the sub-atomic to the cosmic domain.

Not Even Wrong:
The Failure of String Theory

Lecture and Book Signing
West Bank Auditorium, Willey Hall, 225 19th Ave S, Minneapolis

Author Peter Woit discussed his new book Not Even Wrong: The Failure of String Theory and the Search for Unity in Physical Law. Book description: Woit presents the other side of the growing debate on string theory -- arguing that it's not even science. The theory resembles something more like aesthetic speculation, or even theology. Physicist Wolfgang Pauli described such ideas as "not even wrong" -- they were so incomplete they could not even be used to make predictions to compare with observations to see whether they were wrong or not. In Woit's view, superstring theory is just such an idea. It makes no predictions, even wrong ones, and this very lack of falsifiability is what has allowed the subject to survive and flourish. Mathematical conditions for progress in physics are entirely absent from superstring theory. Judgments about scientific statements, which should be based on logical consistency of argument and experimental evidence, are instead based on personalities who claim to know the truth.

See the website of Campus Atheists and Secular Humanists where it states, "String Theory is a prevailing theory about the structure of the universe. On its face, it appears highly scientific. Dr. Peter Woit, Professor of Mathematics at Columbia University, joins us to explain how unscientific it actually is. As skeptics, we must remember to remain skeptical about all claims, not just religious ones, for their scientific integrity. Dr. Woit will also be selling copies of his latest book entitled Not Even Wrong: The Failure of String Theory And the Search for Unity in Physical Law, courtesy of the University Bookstore."

NOTE: THIS MEETING SHOWS THE FAILURE OF THE STANDARD MODEL. SEE TCCSA 11/20 AND 11/21 MEETINGS FOR THE ANSWERS.

Regular Monthly Meeting
Dr. Kevin Anderson of Creation Research Society
"God Doesn't Make Junk (DNA)"

Northwestern College, 3003 North Snelling, Roseville Minnesota
Totino Fine Arts Center, Room 116

Evolutionists claim that much of the human genome is useless "junk" left over from millions of years of evolution. However, recent research strongly challenges this view, and instead reveals a genome designed with an amazing ability for adaptation and versatility. Evolutionists also claim that the similarity of the human and primate genomes proves they have a common evolutionary lineage, but a careful evaluation of the respective genomes reveals several flaws in this claim.

Kevin Anderson obtained his Ph.D. from Kansas State University in microbiology. He was then a National Institutes of Health postdoctoral fellow at the University of Illinois, and later a professor of microbiology at Mississippi State University. As a professor, he taught graduate level molecular genetics classes and served as the major professor for several doctoral and masters students. He later served as a research microbiologist for the United States Department of Agriculture before accepting his current position as Director of the Van Andel Creation Research Center (Chino Valley, AZ). Dr. Anderson has published numerous papers in technical microbiology and genetics journals, has given presentations at many national and international scientific meetings, and is listed in several "Who's Who"of science and technology. He is also currently the editor-in-chief of the Creation Research Society Quarterly.

Special Technical Meeting
Kevin Anderson of Creation Research Society
"A Creationist Understanding of the Genome"

Northwestern College, 3003 North Snelling, Roseville Minnesota
Totino Fine Arts Center, Room 116

Evolutionists claim that recent genomic research provides strong evidence of evolution. Creation geneticists strongly disagree, and for good reason. Rather than being the product of millions of years of evolutionary change, there is much evidence indicating the genome is young. Also, rather than the genome showing poor design and unnecessary redundancy, it shows an unparallel level of technological sophistication. A creationist view of origins continues to be strongly supported by current genetics research.

Kevin Anderson obtained his Ph.D. from Kansas State University in microbiology. He was then a National Institutes of Health postdoctoral fellow at the University of Illinois, and later a professor of microbiology at Mississippi State University. SYNOPSIS

For centuries scientists and philosophers have marveled at an eerie coincidence. Mathematics, a creation of human reason, can predict the nature of the universe, a fact physicist Eugene Wigner referred to as the "unreasonable effectiveness of mathematics in the physical sciences." In the last three decades astronomers and cosmologists have noticed another, seemingly unrelated, mystery. Contrary to all expectations, the laws of physics seem precisely "fine-tuned" for the existence of complex life.

Could these two wonders actually be isolated pieces of a wider pattern? Both are prerequisites for science, yet what about the process of scientific discovery itself? What are its necessary conditions? Why is it even possible? Read any book on the history of science, and you'll learn about magnificent tales of human ingenuity, persistence, and dumb luck. But that's only part of the story, and not even the most important part. Our location is much more critical to science than it is to real estate. For some reason our Earthly location is extraordinarily well suited to allow us to peer into the heavens and discover its secrets.

Elsewhere, you might learn that Earth and its local environment provide a delicate, and probably exceedingly rare, cradle for complex life. But there's another, even more startling, fact, described in The Privileged Planet: those same rare conditions that produce a habitable planet-that allow for the existence of complex observers like ourselves-also provide the best overall place for observing. What does this mean? At the least, it turns our view of the universe inside out. The universe is not "pointless" (Steven Weinberg), Earth merely "a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark," (Carl Sagan) and human existence "just a more-or-less farcical outcome of a chain of accidents" (Steven Weinberg). On the contrary, the evidence we can uncover from our Earthly home points to a universe that is designed for life, and designed for discovery.

Giants Dr. Clyde Billington
"The Exodus Giants: The Archaeological Evidence"

Northwestern College, 3003 North Snelling, Roseville Minnesota
Totino Fine Arts Center, Room 116 (the room on the right of the main auditorium)

There are several Execration Texts from the Middle Kingdom Period of Egypt that mention the Anakim giants, who are also mentioned in the Old Testament as living in Canaan at the time of the Israelite Exodus. There is also a passage in Papyrus Anastasi I from the New Kingdom Period, which refers to these same giants in the land of Canaan and gives their size. I will compare these Egyptian texts with the information found on the Anakim giants in the Old Testament. I will also be looking at what the Bible says about the giant Goliath whom David slew, since he was an Anakim giant who joined the Philistines. A name much like that of Goliath was recently found written on an ostracon [pottery sherd with writing on it] from the ancient city of Gath.

Author, Home Educator and Speaker from Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Jill was the first female geologist in Denver and the third ever trained at Texas A & M University. A former evolutionary geologist, she has for the past 16 years applied her expertise in studying and compiling information on Creation Science. She is home schooling her own children and providing excellent resources for other home schoolers including the website Media Angels.) She is now on the staff of Creation Studies Institute, www.creationstudies.org headed by Tom DeRosa and affiliated with James Kennedy's Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church. Co-author of Creation teaching books on Science, Astronomy, Anatomy, Geology and more, she is also a dynamic speaker who reaches all ages. Women and youth especially will enjoy as she shares her experiences and vast knowledge.

Jill Whitlock believed that evolution was the way life and the world began. She was trained as an evolutionist and worked as a geologist for 10 years after graduating from Texas A & M University. She worked as a Chief Well Log Analyst for the Rocky Mountain Region and as Senior Staff Exploration Geologist for an oil company in Denver, Colorado. Jill accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior in Dec. 1983 and began praying and studying about the creation vs. evolution question. The Lord was faithful and brought many people into her path who started her on the way to becoming a Flood Geologist and a young earth Creationist. Jill has spent over 12 years studying and compiling information on Creation Science and is available for seminars.

Egyptologist Dr. Charles Aling
"The Archaeological Evidence for Joseph"
Presented by Christian Apologetics Ministry
Northwestern College, 3003 North Snelling, Roseville Minnesota, Youderian Lounge

Dr. Charles Aling, Professor of History at Northwestern College for the past sixteen years, earned his Ph.D. in Ancient History and Egyptology from the University of Minnesota. In addition to his tenure in the classroom, Dr. Aling has been Assistant Field Director on two archaeological expeditions to the Valley of the Kings in Egypt - discovering mummies and lost treasures from the times of the Pharaohs!

Did the Biblical Joseph really live in Egypt, rising from slavery to high office in the Egyptian government? If so, when was this and how does his career fit into Egyptian history as we know it today? While the name of Joseph has never been found in any Egyptian texts, there is much authentic Egyptian coloring in the Joseph Story in Genesis. We shall place Joseph into Egyptian history, examining and correlating biblical passages with recent archaeological discoveries, with what is known of Egyptian titles, and with slavery customs during the time he would have been in Egypt.

Is the creation message a distraction or a foundation?

Why does it matter if we believe in Creation or not? If most American's have already heard the Christmas story and the basic Gospel message, why aren't the churches filled? Is the Bible really the Word of God or is it just a good book written by good men? Why are so many people angry with God? This presentation will answer these questions and more as we focus on the Biblical example of evangelism and explore reasons why most Christians do not share their faith boldly and clearly today. You will leave with practical tools that will help you to know how to evangelize in a non-threatening but effective way. By using Creation and the Biblical law as a solid foundation, hearts and minds will be opened to both scientific and spiritual Truth.

Cosponsored by the Minnesota Center for Philosophy of Science

Dr. Singer writes:

Thirty years ago, in Animal Liberation, I argued for the then-novel view that we owe nonhuman animals equal consideration of their interests, and that to give them less is speciesism, a prejudice as objectionable as racism and sexism. I also argued that the implications of this position are that we should cease to eat animals, and that our use of them for research should be, at least, very drastically curtailed and controlled. After 30 years of debate about this proposal among philosophers, is there any kind of consensus about the moral status of animals?

I shall argue that there is a substantial degree of consensus, if not complete unanimity, that pure speciesism is ethically indefensible. There is, however, more controversy about the moral significance of features like autonomy, rationality and self-awareness, the boundaries of which run substantially, but not entirely, parallel to the boundaries of our species. At the practical level, there is again widespread agreement that factory farming, and research that involves significant animal suffering without a realistic prospect of major benefits for humans or animals, are wrong. There is, however, no agreement on the eating of humanely raised animals, or on less objectionable forms of research.

An Energy Revolution for the 21st Century
PHYSICS AND ASTRONOMY COLLOQUIUM

University of Minnesota, Room 131 Physics Building
Refreshments served in Room 216 Physics at 3:30 p.m.

Global warming has exacerbated the need for a radical transformation of global energy systems away from fossil fuels. Given the large, but environmentally problematic, resources of coal, a revolutionary energy transition might be deferred to the 22nd Century, or later. However, the well-known impacts, like the sea surface temperature and the sea level rising and the shrinking glaciers were all predicted decades ago by climate scientists as a result of increasing human inputs of greenhouse gases, primarily CO2 from fossil fuel burning.

If 2005 was warmest year on record (and likely the warmest in the last 100,000 years), what awaits us as CO2 continues it's inexorable rise? Uncertainty regarding future warming is mainly associated with cloud radiative feedback, but the recently observed global warming is sufficiently close to the high end of the predicted range to warrant prompt action. The question is: What to do to prevent a warming in excess of 2 Degrees C, above which it may become impossible to prevent the disintegration of the Greenland Ice Sheet, and later the West Antarctic Ice sheet as global GDP continues to grow 2-3%/yr.

It will be necessary to generate 100-300% of all primary energy from non-CO2 emitting sources by mid-century. This is an enormous, but I believe doable, task. The long-term goal of a sustainable global energy system capable of supporting high-tech civilization with a minimum adverse impact on the climate and the ecosystem needs to be aggressively explored now. Accomplishing this energy transformation, as the world economy grows by a factor of five by mid-century, may be greatest challenge to applied science in history.

"It's a Young World After All"

Even many people who believe in Intelligent Design feel that the evidence for an ancient earth is so strong that they have no recourse but to accept it. Yet there are major problems with the dating methods, including unwarranted assumptions. In addition, a lot of selection and adjustment of data is taking place behind the scenes that gives an illusion of congruence. There is a powerful case for a young earth that fits the Biblical chronology and explains the geologic data far better than the standard chronology.

There are many clues that common dating methods give erronious values.
Among them:

A World War II airplane is about 1,000 years old according to Evolutionists?????
Radio Halo's had to form in less than 1/5th of a second?????
If the fire is still smoldering, it's less than 6 months old???????

The Antithesis of Intelligent Design; or, why reality is actually about Dumb Accidents
PHYSICS AND ASTRONOMY COLLOQUIUM

University of Minnesota, Room 131 Physics Building
Refreshments served in Room 216 Physics at 3:30 p.m.

P.Z.Meyers says the following: Proponents of Intelligent Design creationism (IDC) have been making claims that their ideas represent a valid form of science. A review of their arguments shows, though, that they rely on argument by inappropriate analogy, in which a statement that something "looks like" an artifact is sufficient; the argument from the impossibility of complexity, which makes the unjustifiable leap that complexity can only arise from intent; inappropriate claims that the irreducibility of pathways implies their assembly could not have been sequential; and sweeping misrepresentations of the state of evolutionary research.

In this colloquium, I'll review a sampling of the evidence from biology that invalidates many of their claims, and demonstrate the anti-scientific, anti-intellectual foundation of the IDC movement. While many of the metaphysical claims of creationists cannot be addressed, the status of evolutionary biology as an explanatory framework is unchallenged by any of the complaints of Intelligent Design advocates.

DEEP IMPACT - A Probe of Comet Structure and Origins

Charles Woodward, University of Minnesota
Refreshments served in Room 216 Physics at 3:30 p.m.

Comets are composed of ices, gases, and dust extant at the epoch of planet formation. The distant activity (greater 7 AU) of comets implies they contain CO ice from the outer solar nebula where temperatures remained lower than 50 K. In contrast, many long-period Oort cloud comets and a few short-period Jupiter-family comets contain crystalline silicates that formed in the protosolar nebula at temperatures greater than 1000 K. Thus, remote sensing and in situ observations of cometary grains properties provides insight into the thermal processing and radial transport of dust and materials during the epoch of planet formation within the solar system. On 3 July 2005 (20:10 HST), the NASA DEEP IMPACT probe encountered the Jupiter Family comet 9P/Tempel 1. The spectacular collision event resulted in the release pristine materials from the interior of the comet nucleus, provided our first high spatial resolution imagery of cometary surfaces, and enabled study of cometary structure and physical properties (e.g., bulk density, tensile strength). This talk will review results of the DEEP IMPACT event and, in particular, highlight new insights into cometary dust composition derived from time-series mid-infrared spectrophotometry obtained on the Gemini-North (Mauna Kea, HI) 8-m telescope, as part of a broad international campaign. Further discussion of the DEEP IMPACT mission and initial scientific reports are published in the 2005 October 16 issue Science.

In several parts of western United States and in other areas of this world, there are erosional features and related deposits of debris which speak loudly of massive discharges of water. These include canyons 20 miles long, 6 miles wide, and many hundreds of feet thick. Debris consists of rolling hills and massive gravel bars high above the surrounding terrain. Much of the debris are boulders the size of automobiles and larger. These features support Noah's Flood and the aftermaths of that Flood. Geologist, Dave Nutting, takes you on a visual tour of some of these sites so that we can apply this knowledge to other locations including our own backyard. Come for a fun night of examining "hard hitting questions" about the Ark. - Would the boat float?
    - What's the scoop on the Ark poop?
    - Didn't it stink on the Ark?
    - How could 8 people care for all those animals?
Through a Q and A presentation, Julie will examine the feasibility of the Ark. This lecture, geared for all ages, is based on the book Noah's Ark: A Feasibility Study by John Woodmorappe

Julie Von Vett is a teacher at The Academy (sponsored by YEAH), a science teacher at several home school coops, home schooled her own children through high school and is a member of the Board of TCCSA. Her formal education began with a BA in psychology and religion.

Randall Hedtke, a retired biology teacher (who has suffered persecution in defense of the truth) will explain how to teach evolution as theory rather than doctrine. He will attempt to dispel all of the well-cultivated illusions regarding the question of origins in the biology curriculum. Consider the following: Charles Darwin deliberately rejected scientific objectivity in the Introduction to the Origin of Species. The issue is not between science and religion, but first and foremost between legitimate science and Darwinian pseudoscience. Professionally speaking, educators cannot teach evolution the way evolution proponents would have it taught. Evolution is not a secular explanation for origins; it is a doctrine of Religious Humanism, which explains its departure from legitimate science. Vital information unfavorable to evolution in the last edition of the Origin, the incipiency problem, continues to be withheld from students. Academic honesty dictates a revelation of that information.

Did people once really live over 900 years? Why don't we live to that age now?

Dr. Curtis Writes:
"I deal with the ages of people prior to the flood and at least five things that change at the flood that now makes it impossible to live that long. I show pictures of modern attempts in nearly every metro area to closely replicate the pre-flood conditions in hospitals. I understand that there are two such hyperbaric chambers in the Twin Cities. Four of the things that changed are estimates. 1 (the % of oxygen in the atmosphere) we can prove was between 32% & 35% before the flood.

"There are a lot of power point graphics & pictures to make it easy for elementary school children to understand most of what is presented. Some suggest that the years of Gen. 1-9 are really months. If that is true, you will have men begetting children at age 5 or 6. I know there is an ailment that brings about physical maturity about that age but who would be willing to say that all of these men suffered from it?

"I have studied the subject of Evolution & Creation since January of 1967 as a hobby. I have been presenting Seminars on the subject full time now for about 5 years.

"I have 2 advanced academic degrees: 1 in Psychology & 1 in Biblical Archaeology. My understanding of Creationism comes from personal research over 38 years."

Tom Vail

"The Grand Canyon: A Different View"

Grand Canyon

In 1980, while managing a corporate computer center in downtown Los Angeles, Tom Vail took a vacation that would prove to be a turning point in his life - a rafting trip through the Grand Canyon.

Two years later he left the corporate world behind and became a career rafting guide. Tom has worked as a commercial guide since then and as a part-time guide for the Grand Canyon National Park Service. He is a past elected member of the board of directors for Grand Canyon River Guides.

Tom's time in the Canyon would not only lead to a career he loves, it also brought about a spiritual change in his life. In 1994, Tom became a Christian and the following year, he and his wife Paula started Canyon Ministries, which offers Christ-centered rafting trips through the Grand Canyon. Besides their own trips, they run Canyon tours for both Answers in Genesis and Institute for Creation Research, the two largest creation science ministries in the country. Tom and His wife Paula live in Phoenix, AZ.

In his book, Grand Canyon, a different view, Tom combines the stunning photography of fellow Canyon guide Charly Heavenrich with the compelling commentaries of some of the leading creation science writers, researchers, and theologians of our time. The Canyon is shown from the largest geological wonders to the smallest flora, all intricate parts of God's hand at work. Join us as he shares with you how the Grand Canyon provides evidence for a global Flood and is a living testimony to God's word - all part of an important Biblical message.

Isaac Newton: A Dramatic Recreation Of History's Greatest Scientist
As Played By John Nuckols

John Nuckols has an uncanny way of assuming the character of historic figures and taking us beyond the writings to the soul and character of the man. We were amazed at his presentation of Louis Pasteur. Now he takes on the identity of the man considered by many the greatest scientist of all times, who changed the way people looked at nature. What people know very little about, however, was Newton's devout faith and his extensive writings on the Bible and Theology.

Critics try to call it fraud, but the best evidence is that dinosaurs were familiar to the ancient artists. There are even some features of dinosaurs pictured that were not known when the stones were discovered, but are now confirmed to be true. Thus a forger would have had to be smarter than all the world's experts at the time of their production. It is much more likely that they are really ancient and that the live dinosaurs were around at the time.

In 1945 German archeologist, Waldemar Julsrud discovered clay figurines buried at the foot of El Toro Mountain on the outskirts of Acambaro, Guanajuanto, Mexico. Eventually over 37,000 figurines and artifacts were found. They were similar to the artifacts identified with the Pre-classical Chupicuaro Culture (800 B. C. - 200 AD) found in this area. Radiocarbon and thermoluminescent testing has supported these estimates.

The authenticity of the find has been challenged because the collection included dinosaurs. Many archeologists believe dinosaurs have been extinct for the past 65 million years and man's knowledge of them has been limited to the past 200 years. If man saw and modeled them 2500 years ago, this view would be falsified.

Dr. Don R. Patton, together with Dr. Dennis Swift have made five trips to the Acambaro in order to conduct their own personal investigation. The collection has been locked away for years but access was attained. You will hear the intriguing story, evaluate the testimony of many respectable, knowledgeable eye witnesses and view the evidence for yourself
.

*This Pruvian Burial Stone came from a cemetery of Ica and Nazca graves (time period 400 to 1,000 AD) located in the Nazca Valley south of Ica, Peru.

Textiles, ceramics and engraved stones were made for mortuary practices, and they were buried with the deceased. Figures show scenes of animals and various human activities.

Designs are carved into the stones. Microscopic analysis reveals that no rotary or power driven tools were used on the stones. (Engraving is similar to modern laser cutting) After engraving, the stone is rubbed with tar to darken it and enhance the design.

Many stones have warriors shown in larger than normal size in comparison to the animals. This is consistent with pre-Columbian pottery of the Moche, Wari and Nazca cultures of Peru.

The bird on top of the man is a rare item in Nazca lore, and it enhances the credibility of the stone.

Walter Lang Went To Be With His Lord
A Tireless Creation Pioneer Is Gone

Saturday, July 10, 2004, Rev. Walter Lang (90), passed away and went to be with our Lord. He is survived by two sons, Robert and Philip. (His wife, Valeria, passed away a few years ago.) There was a memorial service in Seattle on Tuesday, July 13th.

Reverend Lang began serving as a Lutheran pastor in 1940, in a small town in Texas.

In 1963, after raising their two aforementioned sons, Robert and Philip, Rev. Lang resigned from Grace Lutheran Church, in Caldwell, Idaho, in order to assume his duties as the executive officer of the then newly formed: Bible-Science Association (BSA).

The Bible-Science Association began publishing a newsletter, mimeographed at first, and mailed it out to interested creationists across the U.S., and later internationally. The BSA soon began hosting large annual meetings - with the leading creation speakers of the 1960s and 1970s. Rev. Lang was dedicated and instrumental in all of this. He, his wife, and several other helpers kept the BSA running on a daily basis and mailing information out each month. They would often pack boxes of books into the back of a vehicle on a Friday and then commence a long drive across part of middle America to go to churches and civic centers in order to give creation seminars over the weekend. Rev. Lang was never hesitant to drive or fly to locations - literally around the globe.

Rev. Lang later left the BSA and formed the Genesis Institute, and subsequently moved it from Minneapolis to the Seattle area in the early 1990s.

We have lost a great warrior for the Gospel. He has gone on to his reward. He is present with his Savior - even as you are reading this message.

His health had been declining for the past couple of years. He was having problems with his short-term memory. He remained ever polite and gentle, as was his nature. Always ready with calmness and spiritual grace. I last saw him several months ago. But in the past few months his physical strength began to fail as well. He recently contracted pneumonia, and passed away.

Several of Rev. Lang's works are on-line within: https://www.creationism.org/lang/

A biography (with photo) is at: https://www.creationism.org/lang/Lang2DecadesCrtn/index.htm and chapter one of this book (see link above) has an early history of the BSA.

WHAT CAUSED THE "MASS EXTINCTION" OF THE DINOSAURS?

Al Heitkamp

Modern day consensus in science recognizes that world wide extinction events have occurred in our Earth's history. It is now acknowledged that these events were catastrophic and therefore different from earlier uniformitarian and localized flood concepts and explanations. Dinosaur extinction theories continue to abound, many based on erroneous assumptions. However, a relatively recent age Biblical Creation based approach provides the most feasible answer when examining the actual scientific evidence.

What significance does mass extinctions, conceivably occurring during the Noahic flood, have for our future?

Al Heitkamp has a degree in chemistry from the University of Minnesota. He is a 48 year member of the American Chemical Society. His 42 year career was in the paint and coatings industry, with firms including Dupont, Glidden and Cargill. He joined the TCCSA in 1977 and has served on its Board since 1978.

(Co-Author of God's Promise to the Chinese)

Totino Fine Arts Center, Rm. 115 (the room on the left of the main auditorium), Northwestern College, 3003 North Snelling, Roseville Minnesota

Richard Broadberry is the co-author of "God's Promise to the Chinese" and several other books on the connection between the most ancient forms of the Chinese characters and the book of Genesis. He was a missionary to China and Taiwan where he had access to the National Archives and studied the very ancient "bone oracles." He speaks fluent Mandarin as well as beautiful English. He now resides with his wife and adopted Chinese daughter (with another coming soon) in Southampton England.

Ethel Nelson is the primary author and her first books came out about 20 years ago. Many over the years have noted things like the character for "righteousness" being a lamb over the character for "me," a "ship" being a vessel with 8 persons aboard, among others.

Broadberry also points out that the Emperor would perform an annual animal sacrifice at the Temple of Heaven, humbling himself and asking for forgiveness for himself and his people and that this continued until the Empire ended in the early last century.

All this is powerful evidence that the Chinese ancestors understood the God of the Bible who is thus not a "foreign God". It is likewise a unique confirmation to all people of the historicity of the early chapters of Genesis.

The Secret Life and Times of Unborn Children. Ps.139:13-16. The First 30 Days.

This program is exciting and appropriate for all ages. The unborn baby is a wonderful picture of God's power and love towards us from conception to eternal life. Emphasis will be on the unborn baby before the mother even knows she is pregnant. Most people think that their birthday is the most important day of their life. Yet, before you were born and were a person of 1 trillion cells, day 15 in the womb was the most important day of your life.

Russ will answer why this is true as well as why you are fully human whether you are one cell, a million cells or, when you enter the world at birth, a trillion cells. What is the Matrix? What does it mean to be "Knit together in the Womb?" King David uses a term to describe our creation in the womb 3000 years before it was discovered by science. Russ, is a national Creation Science speaker and leads the Adventure Safaris dinosaur digs in the Dakota Badlands. He uses colorful animated Power Point with explanations easily understood by all audiences. The meeting will be in two parts. The first fifteen minutes will be a report on his dinosaur dig last summer at Lemmon SD and the evidences found for Noah's Flood. The second part will be on the unborn child.

Christopher W. Macosko is a gifted speaker who makes complex topics understandable to all and will show clearly that the blustering of the evolutionists is without merit. He is also internationally recognized for his research in reactive polymer processing - a blend of transport phenomena, chemistry, and materials science. He was among the first researchers in the United States to realize the potential of reaction injection molding. Reactive polymer blending is another major research area for his group. Current research focuses on creating multiphase polymer microstructures via melt blending. He has also been active in developing new rheological test methods and applications and authored the popular text: Rheology, Wiley 1994.

The Macosko Group has produced over 300 publications and been home to nearly 100 Ph.D. and M.S. students. He is also the Director of IPrime, the Industrial Partnership for Research in Interfacial and Materials Engineering at the University of Minnesota.

HISTORY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY COLLOQUIUM

Anti-Evolutionism and Contested Authority in the Natural Sciences Since 1800

John Lynch, Barrett Honors College, Arizona State University

Physics Bldg Room 131, East Bank, University of Minnesota

For A Map Of The University, Click HERE.

The past one hundred and fifty years have seen naturalistic and often materialistic modes of inquiry (as advocated by, for example, John Tyndall and Richard Dawkins) superceding the teleological and theistic methods used by earlier non-specialists. This "hardening" of the scientific viewpoint, particularly in the life sciences, is interesting when one considers the concomitant increase in the acceptability of evolutionary explanations to the general public, the increase in the popularization of what the emerging specialists saw as "good science," and (as noted by Michael Ruse) the parallel reduction of extra-epistemic factors in evolutionary theorizing. The reception of the Christian 'anti-geologists' of the early 19th century and that of Vestiges of the Natural History of Creation (1844), illustrate how self-definition and boundary work by the emerging scientific professionals allowed them to distance themselves from both Biblical literalists and many amateurs, thus moving the adjudication of scientific claims out of the public sphere. In more recent times, a movement for "renewal of science and culture," traveling under the banner of "Intelligent Design" has attempted to return the judgment of scientific theories to the public arena, while advocating a distinctly anti-naturalistic methodology of science. In this talk (a work very much in progress), I will discuss the above in relation to the persistence of anti-evolutionism in American culture.

EUGENE SATTLER : LECTURER ON BIBLICAL CREATION AND THE FLOOD

Eugene Sattler is an experienced and extremely competent educator speaking on an exciting topic. You will turn green when you see how the evolutionary establishment has fooled the public! He served Lutheran schools in Nevada, Texas, Ohio and Wisconsin. He also served as director of Camp LuWiSoMo, Wild Rose, WI for seven years. Since retirement from the classroom he has devoted full time to lecturing on Creation vs. Evolution. His topics cover a wide range of areas in which he has done research.

Eugene Sattler holds Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts degrees from Concordia University, River Forest, Illinois. He has done graduate studies in geology, geography and anthropology at Michigan State University, East Lansing, Michigan. He holds membership in the Creation Research Society, and serves on the board of directors of the Genesis Institute and the Chronology-History Research Institute.

Mr. Sattler has traveled extensively throughout Canada, Alaska and the Western states studying geology, fossils and evidence of the Flood. He has lectured for the past 35 years on Creation vs. Evolution and related topics. He stressed the importance of Biblical creation as the foundation for a good education.

He and his wife, Doris, have seven children, 24 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He has served as a church organist and choir director for most of his professional life. His latest hobby is building scale models of Noah's Ark.

EVOLUTION: THE INCREDIBLE HOAX

Geared toward youth and adults, this program shows that evolution is unscientific.
It answers the question, "Why do REAL scientists say NO to evolution?" Evidence is presented for:

A young earth
Coexistence of humans and dinosaurs
Noah's Ark - size, capacity, construction
Search for the Ark, recent sightings
The Flood and the demise of the dinosaurs
Dinosaur-like creatures alive and well today
The pre-flood world of giant animals, plants, humans

There will be time for questions and discussion

This more popular level talk will discuss how Darwin developed his ideas, what factors influenced his thinking, and how his thinking was popularized and subsequently modified to arrive at today's current ideas regarding evolution. This talk will also incorporate some information on stalactite formation and meteor astronomy.

Dr. Kevin Anderson received his Ph.D. in microbiology from Kansas State University. He then became an NIH post-doctoral fellow in the Department of Microbiology at the University of Illinois. Later he was a professor of microbiology at Mississippi State University, and most recently a research microbiologist for the United States Department of Agriculture. He has published over 20 research papers in technical journals, and has given technical talks at numerous scientific conferences. He is also the current editor-in-chief of the Creation Research Society Quarterly (the society's technical journal). His primary area of research has been the molecular analysis of bacterial interactions and molecular genetics. With this background, he has been a leading advocate that recent genetic discoveries (such as the human genome project) are not consistent with the claims of evolutionists (regardless of all the media hype), and, in fact, provide outstanding evidence for creation.

This talk will deal mostly with the biological aspects of evolution, particularly at the cellular level and will cover aspects of why speciation actually fits well within a creation model, why antibiotic resistance in bacteria is not a true example of evolutionary change and why mutations cannot drive evolutionary change. It will also show the total lack of genetic evidence that evolutionary change has ever occurred and why the human genome project has become a gold mine for creationists.

* Why do Ancient Cultures get tagged "mysterious?"
* How can the Bible and modern advancements help our understanding of ancient cultures?
* What would be the greatest impact of a society with extraordinary longevity?
* What are the two major keys missing from modern education's understanding of ancient man?
* ET or Noah --The Super Hero: Which makes more sense?
* How can a better understanding of man's past improve the choices of our own future?

Having had academic training in science and history and ministerial training, he has worked as a museum curator, a college instructor of Old Testament and Christian evidences, and worked in pastoral leadership. He has traveled extensively presenting multi-media seminars that communicate compelling truths to children and academics alike. CRF is devoted to giving families helpful "tools" to build a confidently Bible-based 'world view" and exalt the Lord Jesus Christ as The Creator.

Abstract: Niels Bohr and Albert Einstein discussed and disagreed about the seemingly paradoxical nature of the quantum theory for over 30 years. This lecture will deal with the beginnings of that dialogue a few years before the formulation of quantum mechanics in the mid-1920s. The remarkable role played in these discussions by "the third man," Paul Ehrenfest, is a significant part of the story.

"Time, Motion and Relativity"

Dr. Glenn Collins of Common Sense Science

For High School and up with a science background.

Dr. Glen Collins spoke on Time, Motion and Relativity and Light-Speed and Aether as subtopics of the overall theme of "Common Sense Physics", presented as an overview of the following themes:
Physics as Science During the 'classical' period, physical theory was developed and tested by the Scientific Method. Classical physicists searched for the fundamental order they believed to exist in accordance with principles of objective reality, causality, and unity.

Physics as Pantheism Coupled with Einstein's contradictory combination of the principles of relativity and constancy, this principle of chance became the dominant philosophy of physics early in the Twentieth Century under the name "Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle."

Common Sense Physics as Science Common Sense Science uses underlying axioms, principles, and models that accurately predict the common and laboratory observations of nature:
All matter, forces, and energy are fundamentally electromagnetic in character.

Charge is the essential substance of the elementary particles.

Conservation of energy.

Dr. Lucas' work provides a helicon-based explanation of particle accelerator traces, and is the first comprehensive alternative to the Standard Model's ‘particle zoo.' The presentation explained why it is important that causal, refined-Classical-electrodynamics-based alternatives are developed and understood by an increasing number of scientists to combat anti-God theories based upon relativistic and randomness-oriented scientific models.

Weaknesses

Totino Fine Arts Center, Rm. 116 (the room on the right of the main auditorium) Northwestern College, 3003 North Snelling, Roseville Minnesota

Russ McGlenn

What every Christian should know. The Two Best Kept Secret Weaknesses of Evolutionism. When you know these, the rest of evolution is a fairy tale.

A colorful presentation easily understood by all ages. This evidence can be used to crack the foundations that will bring Evolutionism tumbling down.

Imagine you are a soldier in WWII. A spy comes to you and says he knows the two most important weaknesses of the enemy. With this knowledge, you can destroy his hold over millions of people. Wouldn't you want to know what these weaknesses are?

A renowned evolutionist, attempting to prove that birds descended from dinosaurs, discovered the number one weakness and was barred from further research in the museum.

A young woman training to be a doctor discovered the number 2 weakness while a sophomore in college. She was not a Christian but decided, based upon this discovery, that evolutionism was false science. She later became a Christian and creationist.

This is Need to Know information. If you have not discovered the answer yet, Russ McGlenn, who has been behind enemy lines, will reveal these two secrets at the TCCSA meeting May 20th 2003. Tontino Hall, Northwestern College.

"The Fall of Babylon"

Clyde E. Billington

The Fall of Babylon is recorded in Daniel ch. 5. One hundred years ago, Bible critics said that they could prove that Daniel 5 contained a major historical error, because the famous Babylonian King List did not mention a king named Belshazzar. Archaeological discoveries later proved Daniel 5's historical accuracy. The historical details of Daniel 5, dealing with the Fall of Babylon in one night to the Persian army and the murder of Belshazzar that same night, have been proven correct by both historical and archaeological evidence. In his presentation, Dr. Billington will give this historical and archaeological evidence and also show slides of Babylon and of important archaeological discoveries made there.

Clyde E. Billington has earned four colleges degrees, including a Ph.D. from the University of Iowa in ancient history. Dr. Billington is an associate professor of ancient history at Northwestern College, where he has taught for the last ten years. Dr. Billington frequently gives presentations in churches on archaeology and the Bible.

"The Exodus: Fact or Fiction"

Dr. Charles Aling

Dr. Charles Aling has been Professor of History at Northwestern College for the past sixteen years. He earned his Ph.D. in Ancient History and Egyptology from the University of Minnesota and has served as an officer in Army Intelligence. In 1991 he was the Sears Foundation Teacher of the Year. In addition to his tenure in the classroom, Dr. Aling has been Assistant Field Director on two archaeological expeditions to the Valley of the Kings in Egypt -- discovering mummies and lost treasures from the times of the Pharaohs!

Dr. Aling bring us up-to-date on the current thinking about the Exodus in the secular community, and talk about the theory that the Exodus did not occur. He will point out the truthfulness of the Biblical account, that there was an Exodus and it occurred when the Bible says it did. This was not in the time of Ramses II like Hollywood and like some scholars would have us believe. He will unveil some new evidence that is not yet published.

This is a subject of great dispute among scholars of merit and Dr. Aling has participated in public debates on the subject.

"Biblical Recipe for Good Health"

Rev. Dave Fruehauf

The presentation covered 2 basic aspects -
1. Nutritional Health
2. Psychological/Emotional Health

"The Bible tells which foods can bring nutrition and health to our bodies. It also has much to say about nutrition for the soul for healthy living and healing. The presentation will reflect our Creator God's concern for our total well-being."

The human body is an incredibly complex and marvelous machine designed by the Creator. His instruction book details ways to get the optimal performance from this living machine.

The presentation will cover some of the basic principles of healthy living emphasizing nutrition, but also touching on emotions. James says - don't let the sun go down on your anger. If we do that we prevent things from festering, causing possible havoc to our physical and emotional well-being. Proverbs tells us laughter is good for the bones.

David Fruehauf has been working for 5 years as a pastoral counselor at CEFC. He has a Masters in counseling and psychology, and a M.Div. from Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, IN, part of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. He was an Assistant Pastor for 2 & 1/2 years at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Wayzata, and was also at Vision of Glory Lutheran Church for 11 years. His basic career was in education, he was a mathematics teacher and high school counselor. Nutrition has been his hobby, he has been studying it for about 20 years.

He was TCCSA's first President. He gave presentations on creation topics for about 8 years in church settings and also to the high school science classes at both Armstrong and Cooper High Schools.

Have you been to the Home School Science Fairs? They are great! Some of the best and brightest kids in Minnesota were there. You could have learned how stable the Ark was in strong winds, how to, and how not to make yogurt, how weight effects the speed of a sled, and how to get energy from chicken droppings. Over 60 projects were up for display with many passersby stopping to check them out. It was a wonderful opportunity to place a Christian viewpoint of science before the public. For detailed directions call Julie Von Vett, 651-464-4361 or consult /adventure/fair.html.
